See the section below taken from Section 5.2.3.2 of the TRM.
To configure the device to only turn on/off the FETs using commands from the host processor, then:
Settings:FET:FET Options[FET_CTRL_EN] should be set to 1, so that the device can turn on/off the FETs at all.
Go through each of the Settings:Protection:CHG FET Protections A – C and Settings:Protection:DSG FET Protections A – C registers, and clear (0) the bits for the protections that you do not want to be able to automatically turn the FETs on or off.
